As people who live and breathe escape rooms, we’re often asked which other Sydney escape rooms we recommend. Rather than pretending there is one single “best” escape room for everyone, we’ve put together a list of our personal favourites - the rooms and venues we think are doing something special.
Here are our top escape room recommendations in Sydney, in no particular order.
The Cool Space
The Cool Space is a fantastic pick for players who appreciate original puzzles, immersive environments, and rooms built by people who clearly love escape rooms themselves (Josh and Daniel).
Located in Chippendale, The Cool Space offers highly polished 60-minute adventures with a strong focus on atmosphere and puzzle design. Their rooms feel playful, detailed, and thoughtfully constructed, making them a great option for teams who enjoy exploring believable environments while solving clever, hands-on challenges.
Their current games include Sweethearts Ice Cream Parlour, a colourful secret recipe heist set inside an ice cream shop, and Seance, a unique seated escape room experience where players attempt to contact a spirit and uncover its story.
What makes The Cool Space stand out is the balance between puzzle-solving and immersion. The rooms are original, designed in-house, and especially well suited to players who want something polished, fun, and satisfying without relying on jump scares.

The Cipher Room
The Cipher Room has built a reputation as one of Sydney’s most respected escape room companies, and for good reason. Their rooms are known for beautiful design, clever puzzle flow, tactile interactions, and strong storytelling.
What we love about The Cipher Room is how complete their worlds feel. Their experiences are cinematic without losing the joy of classic escape room puzzle-solving. The sets, lighting, sound, props, and puzzles all work together to create rooms that feel carefully crafted from start to finish.
The Cipher Room is independently owned and run, with many of their puzzles, props, sound design, lighting, and narratives created in-house. They’ve also earned major international recognition, including TERPECA and Golden Lock awards, which is a huge achievement for an Australian escape room company.
We especially recommend Mr Pepper’s Toy Shop, which has received international recognition and is a great example of how imaginative and polished their rooms can be.

Heart of the Mountain
Heart of the Mountain is more than a traditional escape room. It feels closer to a full adventure experience, blending cinematic storytelling, environmental effects, physical interactions, and large-scale immersion.
Rather than simply moving from one puzzle to the next, players are drawn into a bigger world. The experience has the pacing of an interactive movie or expedition, with story, atmosphere, and discovery driving the adventure forward.
It’s a great choice for groups who want something ambitious and memorable. Heart of the Mountain is especially suited to players who love immersive theatre, cinematic worldbuilding, and escape rooms that push beyond the usual format.

Next Level Escape
Next Level Escape is a great recommendation for groups who want creative, story-driven escape rooms with a more personal touch. Their games are designed and built in-house, with dedicated game masters who stay with your group and interact with you in character throughout the experience.
We’d especially recommend Forest of Echoes and End of the Road. Forest of Echoes is a 90-minute, narrative-heavy adventure through a mysterious forest, with multiple puzzle streams and no in-game timer. End of the Road is an absurdist zombie-horror escape room with humour, traditional puzzles, and a more beginner-friendly structure.
Next Level Escape is also a strong choice for larger groups, with some experiences designed for up to 14 players.

Mission Room Escape
Mission is one of the strongest choices in Sydney if you’re looking for live-action horror, high tension, and immersive storytelling.
Their George Street venue is especially known for creating hyper-realistic escape room environments, with experiences that lean into atmosphere, suspense, and theatrical intensity. Mission has been operating since 2014 and describes itself as Sydney’s first mechanical escape room, with a focus on combining immersive storytelling, technology, and in-house room design.
The two experiences we’d most recommend are The Sacrifice and Intruders. Both are ideal for groups who want more than just a traditional puzzle room. These rooms are scary, immersive, and designed to make you feel like you’ve stepped into a horror movie.
If your team is chasing live actors, jump scares, and an experience with real intensity, Mission Escape Rooms is a very strong pick.
